A website is forever a work in progress...
The timeline is the backbone of the site. Dozens of (minor) edits, additions and updates are being added on a regular basis. For instance: you can check on which floor he lived at 56 Ludlow Street in New York in 1965, what songs were recorded during a production job for The Police in 1977, get a lowdown on his performance of "The Falklands Suite" in 1987 or pull up a quote about how he felt when he received his OBE in 2010. The weird self-interview on French TV in 1990 is really something else.
The biggest section by far. More than 900 shows are listed, plus a wealth of confirmed dates of shows with no known setlists. Each decade is preceded by a "highlights" introduction. Each year is easily sortable by date, city, venue and country. All in all more than 1900 dates are listed.
There is a lot of cross-referencing going on, which is a process that never stops, basically. Here's an example from 1991:
He performs Sanctus with The Orchestra of St Luke's at Town Hall in New York on June 8 and 9. Also on the bill were David Byrne and Glenn Branca.
The composition - labeled as Four Etudes For Electronic Orchestra - is released on the Paris s'eveille - suivi d'autres compositions album. It was written for the Randy Warshaw Dance Company in 1987.
This site pre-dates the launch of YouTube in 2005. Quite a bit of Cale footage has surfaced over the years and it is being added to the site. Like this one from his performance in Prague on June 5, 1994 when he played at the festive opening of the Archa Theatre in Prague with Japanese dancer Min Tanaka.
The code of the current site is being cleaned up extensively, which has decreased the loading time significantly. Some straggling snippets were created more than 10 years ago. It is a lot of work, but in the long run it will make the transition to a mobile friendly version easier. When will it be live? Suffice to say that I don't have a deadline, I have a life.
